Wilnis Connection since april 29th 2008
On the night of 4-5th of May 1943, a Vickers Wellington Bomber (He 727, NA-K) crashed near the village of Wilnis in the Netherlands. It belonged to RCAF 428 (Ghost) Squadron and took off from RCAF Dalton in North Yorkshire.
Robert Benjamin Moulton, its pilot, steered away from the village, thereby saving many lives. Two Brits baled out, three Canadians remained in the aircraft.
The aircraft hit the side of a peat bog and immediately disappeared under water. In later years this was replaced by farm land. 60 years after the crash, the people of Wilnis and the families in Canada, managed to get funding for the excavation and thus provide a new burial place for the 3 Canadians. In 2008, people from the village of Wilnis visited the former RCAF Dalton.
